Registration of Use of Casks to Store Spent Fuel and First System Thermal Performance Assessment This letter provides formal notification that three additional casks have been placed in service to store spent fuel. This notification is required by 10CFR72.212, "Conditions of general license issued under § 72.210", paragraph (b)(1)(ii), which states that the general licensee shall "Register use of each cask with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission no later than 30 days after using that cask to store spent fuel".

This letter also provides 30-day notification of the results of the thermal performance assessment for the first system in place that is required by Certificate of Compliance For Spent Fuel Storage Casks, Certificate No. 1004, Amendment No. 9, Attachment A, Technical Specification 1.1.7, Special Requirements for First System in Place. This information was provided by letter dated August 27, 2008 for the Dry Storage Canister (DSC) with the highest heat load at that time. The letter reported that DSC LGS-61B-005-A had the highest heat load (10.25 kW).

The heat loads for the following three DSCs each exceeded 10.25 kW. DSC LGS-61BTH-1-C-2-015 had the highest heat load (11.63 kW). The result of this assessment is also provided for DSC LGS-61BTH-1-C-2-013 (10.69 kW) and DSC LGS-61BTH-1-C-2-014 (10.98 kW), which have lower heat loads, for your information.
