ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF STP NUCLEAR OPERATING COMPANY POLICY FOR WORKING INSIDE CONTAINMENT, DOCKETS 50-498 AND 50-499
Dear Mr. Bowman:
Thank you for your letter of June 4, 2009, which provides your current policy statement for working inside containment. Your letter provides that personnel are required to work inside containment when containment integrity is required as long as the air locks for entry and egress are in service. Further, STP Nuclear Operating Company policies address normal job assignments and performance issues regarding refusal to work and that Work Management Scheduling Guideline WCG-0002, is followed for addressing work inside containment during personnel airlock and auxiliary airlock maintenance periods.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulations do not specifically address licensee policies and are not included in the conditions of your license. The NRC will continue to enforce the regulatory requirements specified by the license for STP Electric Generating Station, Units 1 and 2 (Licenses NPF-76 and NPF-80), the Code of Federal Regulations, and the Atomic Energy Act, which define our lawful authority and all other NRC regulatory requirements for the STP Electric Generating Station. The NRC does not plan any action specific to the implementation of your company policies.
