Washington, D.C. 20472 Attn: Rulemakings and Adjudication Staff

Subject:

Request for Comment Period Extension On May 18, 2009 NRC and FEMA published a proposed rule amending its emergency planning and preparedness regulations. The public comment period closes August 3, 2009.

The State Emergency Management Agency, in support of Callaway Unit One and Cooper Nuclear Station, would ask that the public comment period be extended to October 16, 2009.

This would allow ample time for staff to review and comment on the proposed changes in Emergency Planning and Preparedness.

Sincerely, Paul D. Parmenter, Director CC: S.J. Crawford, Callaway Power Plant J.G. Kelsay, Cooper Nuclear Station Alan P. Nelson, Nuclear Energy Institute 7empiafe, %SelY-v40 O~slo
