SUMMARY

OF THE MAY 27, 2009, PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS THE 2008 FERMI UNIT 2 END-OF-CYCLE PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT On May 27, 2009, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) held a public meeting at the Monroe County Board of Commissioners Chambers in Monroe, Michigan. The meeting was between NRC Region III management and Detroit Edison Company representatives to discuss the NRCs assessment of the safety performance of Fermi Power Plant Unit 2 for the period from January 1, 2008, through December 31, 2008. The meeting notice and NRC presentation can be found in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) as ML091210230 and ML091460668, respectively. A list of principal NRC and licensee meeting participants can be found in the Enclosure.

The NRC began the meeting with an overview of the NRCs Mission, the Reactor Oversight Process (ROP), national ROP results, and the Action Matrix in general. This was followed by a summary of the NRCs assessment of Fermi Unit 2 performance in 2008. The results of that assessment were discussed in a letter to the licensee dated March 4, 2009 (ADAMS ML090630270). As part of this regulatory performance meeting, Detroit Edison responded to the NRCs assessment. At the end of the meeting, members of the public were given the opportunity to ask questions of NRC officials.
