SUBJECT:

Mr. S. J. Collins, Regional Administrator R. E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant Docket No. 50-244 Response to NRC Integrated Inspection Report

REFERENCE:

(a)

Letter from Mr. David C. Lew (NRC) to Mr. John T. Carlin (Ginna), dated May 4, 2009, NRC Integrated Inspection Report 05000244/2009002; Preliminary White Finding In Reference (a), the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) transmitted one licensee-identified finding that has preliminarily been determined to be White, a finding with low to moderate safety significance, which may require additional NRC inspection. The finding is associated with inadequate implementation of the preventive maintenance (PM) program for the turbine-driven auxiliary feedwater (TDAFW) pump governor that led to a failure of the pump to operate properly. In the letter, R.E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant was offered an opportunity to either attend a Regulatory Conference or submit our position on the finding to the NRC in writing. R.E. Ginna does not plan to take the opportunity for either the Regulatory Conference or submission of a written response.

Should you have questions regarding this matter, please contact Mr. Thomas L. Harding at (585) 771-5219.
