RANCHO SECO NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION - APPROVAL OF FINAL STATUS SURVEY REPORT 4
Dear Mr. Ronningen:
By letter dated July 31, 2008, Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) submitted the Final Status Survey Report (FSSR) number 4 (ML082620127), which provided FSSRs for the following survey units:
800001 Helo Pad - This area consisted of a large portion of the south industrial area, both paved and unpaved. It combined the Folsom Intake, the Helo Pad, and the south Scrap Yard which were all Class 3 areas.
8000103 Auxiliary Building-Nuclear Services Electrical Building (NSEB) Alley - The alley was a Class 3 paved area located between the Auxiliary Building south wall and the NSEB.
8120011, 13, 15, 16 Fuel Building - The Fuel Building, typically Class 1 for floors and Class 2 for upper walls and ceiling, contained the spent fuel storage pool and the floor area and upper walls surrounding the pool.
813000 Auxiliary Building - The Auxiliary Building rooms in zones 1-6 of the Auxiliary Building surveys were some of the most contaminated site areas. The survey units are all classified at least Class 2 for upper walls/ceilings with floors being at least Class 2 but usually Class 1.
826000 Turbine Building Deck - The Turbine Deck was the concrete support structure for the turbine-generator. It is located on the 40' elevation of the Turbine Building.
848019 Retention Basin Miscellaneous Small Buildings - The Small Buildings, surveyed as a Class 3 area, housed the electronic controllers and the chlorination controls for the Retention Basins.
8540001, 2 Miscellaneous Small Buildings (POL [petroleum, oil and lubricants] and Lawn Maintenance) - The Miscellaneous Small Buildings, surveyed as Class 3 structures, contained the lubricating fluids and lawn maintenance equipment.
899000 Buried or Embedded Radwaste Piping Systems - The Radwaste Pipe, a Class 1 area, was the embedded drain pipes which collected radwaste from the various floor drains and sumps and routed it to the Waste Processing Systems.
FSSR number 5, dated March 5, 2009, (ML090830613) provided supplemental information regarding several FSSR number 4 survey units.
Based on our review of the submitted FSSRs and the supplemental information, we have determined that the subject FSSRs are consistent with the previously approved License Termination Plan and are therefore acceptable.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.390 of the NRC's "Rules of General Applicability," a copy of this letter and the referenced correspondence will be available electronically in the NRC Public Document Room or from the Publically Available Records component of the NRC's document system (ADAMS) at the referenced ML numbers. ADAMS is accessible from the NRC Web site at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html.
