Dear Vice President Joe Biden:

I am writing to suggest a course of action that will involve spending money earlier than expected because it seems in line with current government efforts to improve the present economic situation in this country.

I think that revoking the permission to SAFSTOR out of service commercial nuclear power plants and requiring permanent efforts to decommission those plants begin immediately is appropriate at this time.

There appears to be a number of advantages:

First, the investments for decommissioning appear to be steadily decreasing in worth, based on reading reports of the money for the Entergy/Vermont Yankee decommissioning. Spending some of the money before it evaporates seems to be sensible.

Second, people will need to be employed to do the work. This means that new jobs will be created.

Third, the plant sites Will eventually neied to be cleaed up ainyway.

Fourth, for those out of service plants still associated with operating generating plants, a flow of cash still exists if the invested decommissioning money proves inadequate.

Yours truly, Tom Gurdziel IDA,
