Authorization from the NRC to construct and operate a nuclear power plant at a specific site and in accordance with applicable Federal statutes and regulations 3/4 AmerenUE submitted an application for a COL for the Callaway Plant Unit 2 on July 24, 2008.

3/4 AmerenUEs COL application includes the Proposed Projects Environmental Report.

National Environmental Policy Act 3/4 NEPA requires Federal agencies to use a systematic approach to consider environmental impacts.

3/4 An Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is required for major Federal actions that may significantly affect the quality of the human environment.

3/4 Issuing a combined license is considered a major Federal action.

NRCs Environmental Review:

3/4 Evaluates potential environmental impacts of construction and operation of a new nuclear facility at the Callaway site.

3/4 Is systematic and informed by:

3/4 10 CFR Part 51 - NRCs regulations for implementing NEPA, 3/4 NUREG-1555 - NRCs Environmental Standard Review Plan, ,

which provides review guidance.

3/4 Provides for public involvement by incorporating 3/4 Scoping comment period, 3/4 Draft EIS comment period.

3/4 Clearly documents the environmental findings.

3/4 Maintains an open and transparent review process.
