- Steve, Is this the same thing as FMSY? Define as Fishing Mortality Rate?
FMSY DEFINITION
- The fishing mortality rate which, if applied constantly, would result in Maximum Sustainable Yield (MSY). Used as a biological reference point, FMSY is the implicit fishing mortality target of many regional and national fishery management authorities and organizations. FMSY can be estimated in two ways: (1) from simple (biomass-aggregated) production models (e.g., ASPIC, PRODFIT); (2) from age-structured models that include a stock-recruitment relationship (e.g., ASPM).
