SUMMARY
OF TELEPHONE CONFERENCE CALL HELD ON JULY 2, 2008, BETWEEN THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION AND THE PRAIRIE ISLAND INDIAN COMMUNITY, CONCERNING THE LICENSE RENEWAL OF PRAIRIE ISLAND NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) and a representative from the Prairie Island Indian Community (PIIC) held a telephone conference call on July 2, 2008, to introduce new NRC staff members assigned to the environmental review of Nuclear Management Company, LLCs license renewal application for Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant, Units 1 and 2. Jeffrey Rikhoff and Jennifer Davis were identified as the NRC subject matter contacts for land use, socioeconomics, environmental justice, and cultural resources.
Additionally, the NRC staff responded to questions raised by the PIIC representative including:
whether PIIC personnel would be included in NRC technical meetings, and the level of environmental review for license amendments and other potential plant activities such as an extended power up-rate (EPU). NRC staff and the PIIC representative also briefly discussed issues pertaining to the Memorandum of Understanding between the NRC and the PIIC, severe accident mitigation alternative (SAMA) analysis, environmental justice, and the license renewal review process. provides a listing of the participants.
