VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND POWER COMPANY RicHMOND, VIRGINIA 23261 July 2, 2008 U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attention: Document Control Desk One White Flint North 11555 Rockville Pike Rockville, MD 20852-2738 Serial No.
08-0379 NLOS /ETS Docket Nos. 50-338/339 License Nos. NPF-4/7 VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND POWER COMPANY (DOMINION)
NORTH ANNA POWER STATION UNITS 1 AND 2 FULL STRUCTURAL PREEMPTIVE WELD OVERLAYS REVISED STRESS ANALYSIS FOR PRESSURIZER SPRAY NOZZLES In letters dated May 16, 2007, October 4, 2007 and December 1.8, 2007 (Serial Nos. 06-1007B, 07-0656, and 07-0794, respectively), Dominion provided the stress analysis results for the weld overlays repair associated with Alloy 600 materials for North Anna Units 1 and 2.
Full structural preemptive weld overlays (PWOLs) were performed on six welds in each unit to mitigate the potential for primary water stress corrosion cracking (PWSCC) susceptibility. Subsequent to the submittal of the stress calculation for the spray nozzles in the May 16, 2007 letter, AREVA discovered an error in the North Anna (NA) spray nozzle ASME analysis.
The error resulted in non-conservative thermal transient analysis. An evaluation was performed at the time and concluded that during the interim period, until the revised analyses were completed, there would be no operability concerns and that North Anna was acceptable for operation with this spray nozzle issue for 5 years from the restart after weld overlay implementation.
The reanalysis has been completed and it demonstrates that the spray nozzle weld overlays are acceptable and meet all design requirements. The attachments to this letter provide the revised stress analysis for the Unit I and 2 Pressurizer spray nozzles.
To conform to the requirements of 10 CFR 2.390 concerning the protection of proprietary information, the proprietary information provided in Attachment 1 is contained within brackets.
Attachment 2 has been redacted to provide a non-proprietary version of the requested information. Where the proprietary information has been deleted in the non-proprietary version only the brackets remain (i.e., the information that was contained within the brackets in the proprietary version has been redacted). The basis for redacting certain information as proprietary is provided in the affidavit provided in Attachment 3, pursuant to 10 CFR 2.390(b)(1).
