SUBJECT:
JOSEPH M. FARLEY NUCLEAR PLANT, UNIT NOS. 1 & 2, PROPOSED ALTERNATIVE RELIEF REQUEST FOR PRESSURIZER SAFETY VALVES-Q1/2B13-RR-V-2 (TAC NOS. MD6788 AND MD6789)
Dear Mr. Johnson:
By letter dated September 17, 2007 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML072600203), Southern Nuclear Operating Company, Inc. submitted a request to allow proposed alternative Q1/2B13-RR-V-2, which involved an extension to the ASME OM Code 5-year test interval for Unit 1 Pressurizer Safety Valve (PSV) Serial Number (S/N) N56963-01-0003 and Unit 2 PSVs S/N N56963-01-0005 and S/N N56963-01-0013. The ASME OM Code 5-year test interval for these valves expired in March 2006, October 2006, and September 2007, respectively.
By letter dated June 26, 2008, (ADAMS Accession No. ML081790344), SNC submitted a withdrawal of this request. The letter identified that a risk analysis had been performed for the missed surveillances associated with these valves. The letter also identified that the U1 PSVs had been replaced with valves that meet the test-to-test surveillance date criteria, and that the Unit 2 PSVs would be replaced during the fall 2008 refueling outage with valves that meet the test-to-test surveillance date criteria.
This letter acknowledges this withdrawal and concludes the work performed on these tasks.
Sincerely,
/RA/
R. A. Jervey, Project Manager Plant Licensing Branch II-1 Division of Operating Reactor Licensing Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Docket Nos. 50-348 and 50-364 cc: See next page
