SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT RELATED TO THE LICENSE RENEWAL OF WOLF CREEK GENERATING STATION, UNIT 1
Dear Mr. Garrett:
By letter dated September 27, 2006, Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation (WCNOC) submitted, for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) review, an application to renew the Wolf Creek Generating Station (WCGS), Unit 1, operating license for up to an additional 20 years. The license renewal application (LRA) was submitted pursuant to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 54 (10 CFR 54), Requirements for Renewal of Operating Licenses for Nuclear Power Plants. The staff determined that the LRA was complete and acceptable for docketing on November 30, 2006.
Since that time, the staff has reviewed the WCGS LRA, issued requests for additional information (RAIs), reviewed the applicant's responses to the staffs RAIs, developed a draft safety evaluation report with open items (D-SER) dated February 1, 2008, and reviewed the applicants comments on the D-SER. On the basis of these reviews, the staff has developed the enclosed SER to document its findings associated with the safety review of the LRA and supporting documentation for WCGS.
