SUMMARY
OF JUNE 9, 2008, ANNUAL ASSESSMENT MEETING WITH EXELON GENERATING COMPANY On June 9, 2008 at 6:30 p.m., an Annual Assessment Meeting was conducted at the Peach Bottom Inn in Delta, PA between the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and Exelon Generating Company (Exelon). The NRC requested the meeting with Exelon management to discuss the NRCs assessment of the safety performance of the Peach Bottom nuclear plant for calendar year 2007.
The NRC presented and discussed its assessment of the safety performance of Peach Bottom Units 2 and 3 for the period January 1 through December 31, 2007. The NRC presentations included a discussion of the Reactor Oversight Process, general background on both plants, 2007 performance assessment results, ongoing inspection efforts, results surrounding the inattentive security officer events discovered in September 2007, and an overview of calendar year 2008 planned inspections. As part of the annual assessment meeting, Exelon presented an overview of their performance and initiatives in selected areas and discussed the status of Confirmatory Action Letter (ML072920283) commitments associated with the inattentive security officer events.
The public observed the meeting and were offered the opportunity to communicate with the NRC regarding Exelons performance at Peach Bottom and the role of the agency in ensuring safe plant operations. At the end of the meeting the NRC answered questions from the public, including a discussion of Peach Bottom emergency preparedness practices.
