SUMMARY
OF THE MAY 22, 2008, PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS THE 2007 QUAD CITIES NUCLEAR POWER STATION END-OF-CYCLE PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT On May 22, 2008, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) held a public meeting at the Steeplegate Inn in Davenport, Iowa. The meeting was between NRC Region III and Exelon Generation Company representatives to discuss the NRCs 2007 End-of-Cycle Performance Assessment of the Quad Cities Nuclear Power Station. The results of that assessment were discussed in a letter to the licensee dated March 3, 2008 (ADAMS ML080600322).
The NRC began the meeting with an overview of the NRC and the nuclear industry, the NRCs Reactor Oversight Process (ROP), and national ROP results. This was followed by a summary of the NRCs assessment of Quad Cities Nuclear Power Station performance in 2007. The NRCs meeting presentation slides can be found in ADAMS at ML081440506. A list of principal meeting attendees can be found in the attached Enclosure.
Messrs. T. Tulon and R. Gideon of Exelon Generation provided an oral response to the NRCs assessment. Mr. Tulon also used a slide presentation to specifically address actions taken at Quad Cities to address the substantive human performance cross-cutting issue described in the NRCs assessment letter. Those actions included human performance accountability meetings with the Plant Manager, field observations and coaching, and multiple actions to improve documentation quality. In addition, Mr. Tulon described accomplishments and highlights at Quad Cities Station in 2007 and the first part of 2008. The licensee concurred with the NRC assessment that Quad Cities Nuclear Power Station, Units 1 and 2, operated in a manner that preserved the health and safety of the public and the environment.
Exelon Generation Company, LLC At the end of the meeting, members of the public were given the opportunity to ask questions of NRC officials and the licensee representatives.
