VOGTLE ELECTRIC GENERATING PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2, REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION (RAI) REGARDING THE REFUELING WATER STORAGE TANK LEVEL AMENDMENT (TAC NOS. MD5778 AND MD5779)
Dear Mr. Tynan:
By letter dated January 9, 2008, as supplemented by letters dated February 6, and March 5, 2008, Southern Nuclear Operating Company, Inc. (the licensee), submitted an application to change the nominal trip setpoint and corresponding allowable value of the refueling water storage tank (RWST) Level - Low at which the semi-automatic switchover from the RWST to the containment emergency sump occurs. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff is reviewing the submittal and has determined that additional information is required to complete its evaluation.
This question was discussed by teleconference May 8, 2008, with members of your staff.
The NRC staffs RAI is enclosed. The licensee is required to provide a response to the RAI within 30 days.
