.. T: SW Loop "A" CIPP In.iInr Plis*LharliL, I-tII 'l'hickness l)ISNPOSITION: Ace'pt-As-ls NSC'I, Evildwtion:

The CIPP liner instillntioln requirellients are inhieluded in Specification M262 uand CI:t lwIvihtitioii Nullifier 860, The CIPP nominhal design wall thickness Is 0.49)5 inch. The basis for this 'ksigul thickness w'lue is Clculatlhion NI- 11)31, The controlling purameter for the design thickness' ol the liner Is aIIIexternal pressure of 25 1t w.g. (-I I PSIC's. Thi,, design vlueIfor L'tlernal pressure Is based on the Calculation M-630 SSW System Hydrainlic Analysis. Thit SSW dischtarge piping downstrealn ol' the systern RBCCW and TBCCW hiti w.n hanptvrs operaWth, III nIegative pressure under certain I'low conditions due to ia"siphon" effect bh.ed fill ith pipiphlli elevati ons and flow rates. The lowest absolute pressure occurs at eqtiivifr't., pilping nodues III Iofili "A"uind I.sop "13" that tire tit the highest elevation oif the disclarge pm ping in tih AuLiliIaIy Blay vlault lhinges at £ L (+)15.6 r1.The limiting case for lowest absolute pa:ssure occurs ill' l.t'i utcirgenLcy ope'raliinlit the design low tide level. Trhe piping negulive pre,,urc Iscrnihinild with potential externml hydrostatic pressure to give an equivUlent total external pressure acting fill Ihtl pipe of 25 I1wg. (equivalent to -I I PSIC internal pressure). The CIII' liner is also desigied C: based on a po)sitive internal pressure ol 30 PSIC, which Is the design pressire included in Specificaltion M-300f that applies to the SSW discharge lines downstream to, the last valve in Owli.

system.

CIPi' liner thickness was measured Lithoth the inlet end in the Auxiliary fity Vault antd at OIhL discharge outlet iI Ihe seawater discharge seal well. The Inlet end CIPP thickness was grullr (than the iffilinlifil design wall thickness. For the installation of the CHIP liner in thie SSW d.iilsehalrget line, It fills heen observed thatt there is an "end effect" that occurs at the discharge mil let that causes thinning of the end o1 the lining run after the lust 90 degree elhbow. This thinning is caused by stretching that occurs as the inversion is ended at the discharge pipe opening and lihe closed end ol' the inverted waler-fIlled liner Is held back at that position, The configuration olIe SSW discharge lines adds to this end effect because there Is a 17.4 ft drop in elevation just hbelfre going Into the lust 90-degree elbow tit the discharge. This additional static head of water.

together with the axiul tension from the closed end of the tube inversion, results in liner thinntingl;g;:

ait the outlet end of the run. The only outlet-end thickness meustirement is mt the end of the liner where there isa cut mrade to install the outlet WEKO seal. This locution is less than 8 inches from the pipe outlet and Is heavily Influenced by the end effect.

  • From the design of the CIPP liner (Coie M-1031), it can be seen that the required thickness at the outlet end of the SSW discharge pipe is significantly lower than It is at the inlet end. When tile SSW line drops form EL IIft to -6,4 ft thcre is a change in the hydraulic design conditions from negative pressure to positive pressure. The actual maximum internal operating pressure range for the outlet section of the SSW discharge lines is less than 9,0 PSI occurring at the discharge outlet elevation for the design storm tide tt EL +13.5 ft. There is no point In the dileharge line that experiences greater than I 9 PSI rnnge of pressure.
