REVISED CONTENT GUIDE FOR GENERIC LETTER 2004-02 SUPPLEMENTAL RESPONSES
Dear Mr. Pietrangelo:
Please find enclosed the revised AContent Guide for Generic Letter 2004-02 Supplemental Responses. The purpose of this document is to describe content in a licensee=s final Generic Letter (GL) 2004-02 response that the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff believes would be sufficient to support closure of the GL.
By letter dated August 15, 2007 (ADAMS Accession No. ML071060091), we provided the AContent Guide for Generic Letter 2004-02 Supplemental Responses@ for your information and for the use of licensees. We noted in the letter that the evolving nature of Generic Safety Issue 191 might result in the need for additional information beyond that specified in the document. As we stated in a public meeting with your staff and other stakeholders on October 24, 2007, we have determined that some minor changes to the document are warranted. The changes, which we view as clarifications, are indicated in the Enclosure by sidebars. We are providing the document for your information and for the use of licensees.
As with any guidance document, the use of this document is not mandatory. We also recognize that licensees are in the process of preparing their GL 2004-02 responses. However, we believe the changes will add clarity to licensee responses and will, overall, reduce burden on the licensees, in particular by calling for significantly less information in the structural area than was the case in the original Content Guide. If you have any questions regarding NRC expectations for the use of this document please contact Mr. Michael Scott, Chief, Safety Issue Resolution Branch, Division of Safety Systems at 301-415-0565.
Sincerely,
/RA/
William H. Ruland, Director Division of Safety Systems Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Project No. 689
