Kansas State Historical Society KATH LEE N S E B E LI U S, GOVERNOR Jennie Chinn, Executive Director October 8, 2007 Rani Franovich Branch Chief Environmental Branch B Division of License Renewal Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555-0001 RE:

License Renewal Application Review Wolf Creek Generating Station Coffey County, Kansas

Dear Mr. Franovich:

In accordance with 36 CFR 800, personnel from the Kansas State Historic Preservation Office have met with staff members from and consultants retained by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) in order to discuss potential cultural resource impacts resulting from license renewal for the Wolf Creek Generating Station in Coffey County.

During those meetings, it was clear to our staff that no substantial alterations to current operations are contemplated as a result of license renewal. We have also reviewed the pertinent sections of a document entitled Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants: Supplement 32. Regarding Wolf Creek Generating Station, Draft Report Jor Public Comment. We find the document to be acceptable and concur with its recommendation that renewal of the Wolf Creek Generating Station's operating license will have no effect on historic properties as defined in 36 CFR 800. This office therefore has no objection to renewal.

This information is provided at your request to assist you in identifying historic properties, as specified in 36 CFR 800 for Section 106 consultation procedures. If you have questions or need additional information regarding these comments, please contact Patrick Zollner at 785-272-8681 ext. 217 or Tim Weston at 785-272-8681 (ext. 214).

Sincerely, Jennie Chinn, Executive Director and St-tistoric Preservation Officer Patrick Zolln Deputy SHPO 6425 SW Sixth Avenue
