Indian Point Government to Government Meeting March 20, 2007

'Summary Report Summary:

On March 20, 2007, the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) hosted a government-to-government outreach meeting for New York State elected officials and state a d 1fdersal-with interest or involvement in the Indian Point Energy Center (IPEC)Jut of Scope agencies Out of Scope State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC)joined C in the groundwater posterboard session. Additional NRC staff and an EPA representative remained available during the posterboard sessions to informally answer participants' questions. The meeting agenda is included as Attachment 1.

Jut of Scope NRC Region I and Headquarters staff from various program offices and disciplines attended the meeting. Region I sponsored and planned the event, and the Regional Administrator served as the host. Other Region I attendees included Regional Counsel (who served as the Facilitator) and the State Liaison Officers. The Region I Division of Reactor Safety (DRS) Director, the.

Division of Reactor Projects (DRP) branch chief with oversight of Indian Point, and the Indian Point Senior Resident Inspectors supported the posterboard session on Plant Performance and Oversight. The Region I DRS Deputy Director and a DRS Branch Chief supported the posterboard session on the groundwater contamination investigation.

The EPA presentation elicited attendee questions regarding the groundwater contamination issue. There were questions as to whether remediating the contamination would worsen the problem and if the contamination is a consideration in the license renewal review.
