NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION STAFF AND ENTERGY NUCLEAR OPERATIONS, INC., REPRESENTATIVES TO DISCUSS THE VERMONT YANKEE NUCLEAR POWER STATION LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION On August 13, 2007, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff met with members of Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc. (the applicant), in a public meeting to discuss the license renewal application (LRA) for the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station. A list of participants is provided in Enclosure 1 and the meeting agenda is provided in Enclosure 2.
On July 30, 2007, Entergy submitted a letter to the NRC containing information to clarify four Safety Evaluation Report Confirmatory Items. The information in the letter was sufficient to resolve and close the confirmatory items. Also, the letter contained information on non-safety related components affecting safety-related systems that had not been previously indicated in the original LRA or any subsequent LRA supplement.
The staff required clarification on a few areas addressed in the letter. The staff questioned the applicant about the numerous additions and deletions to existing aging management tables, the addition of new aging management tables, and the addition of components within the scope of license renewal. The applicant addressed the staffs concerns and will provide the clarifying information in a formal supplemental letter to the NRC.
