On Wednesday August 1, 2007, the DLR will issue the Safety Evaluation Report Related to the License Renewal of Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station.
I had previously mentioned that there would be an Open Item that we would not be able to resolve by August 1, thus having to issue and Updated SER with Open Items. Hard work and diligence by both the staff and the applicant has proven otherwise. The RAI is resolved and there will be no Open Item.
Therefore, the original schedule is back in effect.

.Pagel .,j Communication plan for Issuance of Vermont Yankee SER for license renewal Final Safety Evaluation Report for license renewal at Vermont Yankee will be issued on August 1, 2007; OPA will issue a press release; key personnel in Region I and OCA will also be notified On the basis of its evaluation of the LRA, supplements to the LRA, and responses to RAIs, the NRC staff concluded that the requirements of 10 CFR 54.29(a) have been met
- The draft SER was issued on March 30, 2007 In the draft SER, there where no open items and six confirmatory items that required resolution prior to the staff making its final conclusion. The six confirmatory items have been resolved. There was an additional RAI on metal fatigue TLAA that resulted from the ACRS sub-committee meeting in June 2007. That RAI was resolved prior to issuance of the final SER The Atomic Safety and Licensing Board plans to visit the site on October 10, 2007; listen to public limited appearances on October 11, 2007; and begin hearings in January-February 2008 Three safety contentions have been accepted related to aging management programs for steam dryers, metal fatigue, and flow-accelerated corrosion For more information on the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station safety review, contact Jonathan Rowley, jgr@nrc.gov or 301-415-4053
