SUBJECT:

REED COLLEGE RESEARCH REACTOR - CLOSURE OF CONFIRMATORY ACTION LETTER CAL NO. NRR-04-006 ON SITE-SPECIFIC COMPENSATORY MEASURES IMPLEMENTATION PLAN

Dear Mr. Frantz:

On behalf of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), I acknowledge receipt of your letter dated August 20, 2007 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML072400569). Your letter refers to NRCs Confirmatory Action Letter (CAL) No. NRR-04-006 (Accession No. ML033240616), issued on March 25, 2004. This CAL formalized commitments to implement the site-specific compensatory security measures. Your letter documents that Reed College has incorporated the site-specific compensatory measures commitments into the NRC-required security plan. Thank you for informing us of this action, which may be examined during a future NRC inspection of your facility. Based on your letter and our previous inspection of your implementation of the compensatory measures, the NRC has found that no further response is required regarding the CAL, and the CAL is closed.

Current NRC guidance regarding CALs is available in the NRC Enforcement Policy and the NRC Enforcement Manual on the NRC Web site at http://www.nrc.gov/about-nrc/regulatory/enforcement.html (click on Enforcement Policy or Enforcement Guidance). You also may contact the Government Printing Office (GPO) toll-free at 1-888-293-6498 to obtain a printed copy. The GPO is open from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday (except Federal holidays).

In accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 2, Section 2.390 of the NRC's Rules of Practice, a copy of this letter will be made available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the NRCs document system, ADAMS, accessible from the NRC Web site at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm.html.

Sincerely,

/RA/
