For Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) to discuss current status and plans regarding the transfer of six more spent fuel canisters to the Fort Calhoun Station independent spent fuel storage installation using a light-weight transfer cask.

Purpose:

For Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) to discuss current status and plans regarding the transfer of six more spent fuel canisters to the Fort Calhoun Station independent spent fuel storage installation using a light-weight transfer cask.

Outcome:

NRC and OPPD have a clear understanding of OPPD's proposed schedule for use of the light-weight transfer cask and challenges associated with that schedule identified 1:00 p.m.

I. Background a)

Status of upgrade of the Auxiliary Building crane and supports to 105-ton capacity b)

Schedule for upgrading the crane OPPD 1:20 p.m.

II. Need for use of light-weight transfer cask a)

Proposed schedule b)

Proposed number of casks c)

Proposed content of casks including heat load and dose rates OPPD 1:40 p.m.

III. Status of TN Standardized NUHOMS Amendment 11 Review a)

Schedule provided in March 1, 2007, acceptance letter to TN

1) Issue requests for additional information (RAI) by October 22, 2007
2) Assuming only one round of RAIs safety evaluation report issued by February 18, 2008
3) Rulemaking to take place afterward rulemaking typically a six month process assuming no significant adverse comments b)

Earliest amendment would be codified is Fall of 2008 optimistic schedule NRC 2:00 p.m.

IV. Challenges and options in meeting OPPD's proposed schedule for use of the light-weight transfer cask a)

Challenges aggressive schedule given complex nature of the amendment all issues resolved in one round of RAIs may not be realistic given the nature of the amendment request no significant adverse comments during rulemaking process b)

Options amendment request simplified seek an exemption upgrade the crane other V. Wrap-up NRC/OPPD 2:40 p.m.
