SUBJECT:

SEABROOK STATION, UNIT NO. 1 - CLOSEOUT OF GENERIC LETTER 2006-03, "POTENTIALLY NONCONFORMING HEMYC AND MT FIRE BARRIER CONFIGURATIONS (TAC NO. MD1631)

Dear Mr. St. Pierre:

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) acknowledges the receipt of your June 9, 2006, response (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML061640269) to Generic Letter (GL) 2006-03, "Potentially Nonconforming Hemyc and MT Fire Barrier Configurations." This letter was supplemented by letter dated July 10, 2007 (ADAMS Accession No. ML071990101) in response to NRC staff questions. Under oath or affirmation, you have submitted documentation that Seabrook Station, Unit No. 1 does not rely on either the Hemyc or MT fire barrier system. You have submitted documentation under oath or affirmation that other 1-or 3-hour fire barriers that separate redundant safe shutdown trains located within the same fire area have been designed and installed in accordance with current NRC guidance.

Therefore, the NRC staff finds your "L-2006-118, 60-Day Response to NRC Generic Letter 2006-03, Potentially Nonconforming Hemyc and MT [[Topic" contains a listed "[" character as part of the property label and has therefore been classified as invalid. Configurations.|June 9, 2006, letter]] and July 10, 2007, supplement to be responsive to GL 2006-03. The basis for stating that this other fire barrier has been designed and installed in accordance with NRC guidance should be maintained on site and will be subject to inspection during the normal NRC inspection process.

If you have any questions regarding this response, please contact me at (301) 415-2481.

Sincerely,

/ra/
