Include Emergency Planning in Relicensing

Dear Chairman Dale Klein,

I live in proximity to the Indian Point nuclear power plant.

Living near this aging nuclear facility, I am deeply concerned about the potential for increased safety problems and environmental pollution, should the NRC relicense it for another 20 years.

I am also deeply concerned about the in ability to evacuate the region, in the event of an emergency at Indian Point.

In 2003 a New York State-commissioned report conducted by James Lee WiLtt Associates concluded that the emergency evacuation plans for Indian Point are "are not adequate to overcome their combined weight and protect the people from an unacceptable dose of radiation in the event of a release from Indian Point."

The counties surrounding Indian Point and New York State have refused to submit their Annual Certification Letters since the Report was released, yet the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Federal Emergency Management Agency, and Department of Homeland Security have each year certified the plans without ever providing the public or ele'cted officials a detailed response to the large number of problems with the plans as detailed by James Lee Witt.,

I am writing to formrally reguest that the NRC, in the relicensing process for Indian Point, provide the public and elected officials with a comprehensive, detailed response to all of Witt~s findings as called for in federal legislation proposed in the U.S. House (649)sponsored by Representatives Hall, Hinchey, Lowey, Engel, and Shays, and U.S. Senate (994).

sponsored by Senators Clinton and Schumer.

This legislation is also supported by New York Governor Eliot Spitzer.

Dear Chairman Dale Klein,

I live in proximity to the Indian Point nuclear power plant. Living near this aging nuclear facility, I am deeply concerned about the potential for increased safety problems and environmental pollution, should the.NRC relicense it for another 20 years. I am also deeply concerned about the inability to evacuate the region, in the event of an emergency at Indian Point.

In 2003 a New York State-commissioned report conducted by James Lee Witt Associates concluded that the emergency evacuation plans for Indian Point are "are not adequate to overcome their combined weight and protect the people from an unacceptable dose of radiation in the event of a release from Indian Point."

The counties surrounding Indian Point and New York State have refused to submit their Annual Certification Letters since the Report was released, yet the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Federal Emergency Management Agency, and Department of Homeland Security have each year certified the plans without ever providing the public or elected.

officials a detailed response to the large number of problems with the plans as detailed by James Lee Witt.

I am writing to formally request that the NRC, in the relicensing process for Indian Point, provide the public and elected officials with a comprehensive, detailed response to all of Witt's findings as called for in federal legislation proposed in the U.S. House (649)sponsored by Representatives Hall, Hinchey, Lowey, Engel, and Shays, and U.S.

Dear Chairmnan Dale Klein,

I live in proximity to the Indian Point nuclear power plant. Living near this aging nuclear facility, I read every weeks about failures of the alarm system, unexpected and unreported leaks, and fires. I know there is no way to evacuate this region-- we are trapped by mountains and the H-udson River, and have only a two lane highway to escape. I amn also deeply concerned about the inability to evacuate the region, in the event of an emergency at Indian Point.

In 2003 a New York State-coiniissioned report conducted by James Lee Witt Associates concluded that the emergency evacuation plans for Indian Point are "are not Adequate to

/overcome their combined weight and protect the people froin an unacceptable dose of radiation in the event of a release froin Indian Point." The counties surrounding Indian Point and New York State have refused to submit their Annual Certification Letters since the Report was released! How could we allow this place to stay open?

I request that the NRC, in the relicensing process for Indian Point, provide the public and elected officials with a comprehensive., detailed response to all of Witt's findings as called for in federal legislation proposed in the U.S. House (649)sponsored by Representatives Hall, Hinchey, Lowey, Engel, and Shays, and U.S. Senate (994) sponsored by Senators Clinton and Schumner.

Dear Chairman Dale Klein,

I live in proximity to the Indian Point nuclear power plant. Living near this aging nuclear facility, I ain deeply concerned about the potential for increased safety problems and environmental pollution, should the NRC relicense it for another 20 years. I amn also deeply concerned about the inability to evacuate the region, in the event of an emergency at Indian Point.

In 2003 a New York State-commiissioned report conducted by Jaines Lee Witt Associates concluded that the emergency evacuation plans for Indian Point are "are not adequate to overcome their combined weight and protect the people fromn an unacceptable dose of radiation in the event of a release froin Indian Point." The counties surrounding Indian Point and New York State have refused to subinit their Annual Certification Letters since the Report was released, yet the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Federal Emergency Management Agency, and Department of Homeland Security have each year certified the plans without ever providing the public or elected officials a detailed response to the large number of problems with the plans as detailed by Jaines Lee Witt.

I ain writing to formally request that the NRC, in the relicensing process for Indian Point, provide t he public and elected officials with a comprehensive, detailed response to all of Witt's findings as called for in federal legislation proposed in the U.S. House (649)sponsored by Representatives Hall, Hinchey, Lowey, Engel, and Shays, and U.S. Senate (994) sponsored by Senators Clinton and Schumner. This legislation is also supported by New York Governor Eliot Spi tzer.

Dear Chairman Dale Klein,

I live in proximity to the Indian Point nuclear power plant. Living near this aging nuclear facility, I amn deeply concerned about the potential for increased safety probleins and environmental pollution, should the NRC relicense it for another' 20 years. I amn also deeply concerned about the inability to evacuate the region, in the event of an emergency at Indian Point.

In 2003 a New York State-commnissioned report conducted by Jaines Lee Witt Associates concluded that the einergency evacuation plans for Indian Point are "are not adequate to, overcome their combined weight and protect the people froin an unacceptable dose of radiation in the event of a release fromn Indian Point." The counties surrounding Indian Point and New York State have refused to submit their Annual Certification Letters since the Report was released, yet the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Federal Emergency Management Agency, and Department of Homeland Securi ty have each year certified the plans without ever providing the public or elected officials a detailed response to the large number of problems with the plans as detailed by James Lee Witt.

I ain writing to formally request that the NRC, in the relicensing process for Indian Point, provide the public and elected officials with a comprehensive, detailed response to all of Witt's findings as called for in federal legislation proposed in the U.S. House (64 9)sponsored by Representatives Hall, Hinchey, Lowey, En gel, and Shays, and U.S. Senate (994) sponsored by Senators Clinton and Schumner. This legislation is also supported by New York Governor Eliot Spi tzer.

Include Emergency Planning-in Relicensing

Dear Chairman Dale Klein,

I live in proximity to the Indian Point nuclear power plant.

Living near this aging nuclear facility, I am deeply concerned about the potential for increased safe~ty problems and environmental pollution, should the NRC relicense it for another 20 years.

I am also deeply concerned about the inability to evacuate the region, in the event of an emergency at Indian Point.

In 2003 a New York State-commissioned report conducted by James Lee Witt Associates concluded that *the emergency evacuation plans for Indian Point are "are not adequate to overcome their combined weight and protect the people from an unacceptable dose of radiation in the event of a release from Indian Point."

The counties surrounding Indian Point and New York State have refused to submit their Annual Certification Letters since the Report was released, yet the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Federal Emergency Management Agency, and Department of Homeland Security have each year certified the plans without ever providing the public or elected officials a detailed response to the large number of problems with the plans as detailed by James Lee Witt.

Senate (994)

.sponsored by Senators Clinton and Schumer.

Dear Chairman Dale Klein,

I live within 20 miles of the Indian Point nuclear po wer plant and ain concerned about mnany aspects of the plant -- notably its poor planning for safety issues (including emergency evacuation of the surrounding areas) and its poor record of environmental pollution. These problems will potentially become inore serious if the NRC relicenses the plant for another 210 years.

In 2003 a New York State-commiissioned report conducted by James Lee Witt Associates concluded that the emergency evacuation. plans for Indian Point are "are not adequate to overcome their combined weight and protect the people from an unacceptable dose of radiation in the event of a release froin Indian Point." This finding certainly cannot be ignored. The counties surrounding Indian Point and New York State have taken a position -- they have refused to submnit their Annual Certification Letters since the Report was released, yet the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Federal Emergency Management Agency, and Department of Homeland Security have each year certified the plans without ever providing the public or elected officials a detailed response to the large number of problems with the plans as detailed by Jaines Lee Witt.
