Documentation to support the use of the later Code Edition and Addenda

Siva, Per your request. Here is a statement regarding the use of the later Code Edition and Addenda. Dominion will docket a letter stating the same within the next few weeks.

In an October 9, 2006 letter (Serial No.06-856) Dominion requested use of a portion of a later Edition and Addenda of ASME Section XI. 10 CFR 50.55 a(b) currently endorses the 2001 Edition through the 2003 Addenda of ASME Section XI. Pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55a(g)(4)(iv), Dominion specifically requested approval to use the 2001 Edition through the 2003 Addenda of ASME Section XI, Subsection IWE, Table IWE-2500-1, Category E-A, Item number E1.12. The use of Item E1.12 was requested to clarify VT-3 examination requirements for the IWE containment surfaces. In an April 26, 2007 phone call with the NRC Staff to discuss the clarification of the VT-3 examination method and qualification of examination personnel, Dominion stated that it would use the later Code Edition and Addenda in is entirety without the proposed clarifications.

Use of the later Code Edition and Addenda in its entirety for item E.1.12 will be incorporated into the ISI program when approved by the NRC.
