David Mannai Entergy VERMONT YANKEE NUCLEAR POWER STATION LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION MARCH 23, 2007 The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) and representatives of Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc., held a telephone conference call on March 23, 2007, to discuss and clarify the following commitment pertaining to the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station license renewal application.
Commitment #2 Revise station procedures to specify fire hydrant hose testing, inspection, and replacement, if necessary, in accordance with National Fire Protection Agency code requirements.
Discussion: In its March 12, 2007, letter to the NRC, the applicant mistakenly deleted a previously agreed upon commitment #2 and replaced it with the above stated commitment #2.
Based on the discussion with the applicant, the staff indicated that the commitment change requires clarification. The applicant agreed to clarify by reinserting the original commitment #2, assigning a new number to this commitment and add it to the end of the commitment list.
Original Commitment #2 Fifteen (15) percent of the top guide locations will be inspected using enhanced visual inspection technique, EVT-1, within the first 18 years of the period of extended operation, with at least one-third of the inspections to be completed within the first 6 years and at least two-thirds within the first 12 years of the period of extended operation. Locations selected for examination will be areas that have exceeded the neutron fluence threshold.
