Dear Mr. Hannah:
SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT - STORM WATER OUTFALL NO. 6 POTABLE WATER LINE LEAK On 06/07/2007, during the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Compliance Evaluation Inspection (CEI), water was observed flowing into storm water outfall no. 6 which is located on the northwest corner of the empty drum yard and southwest corner of the heliport. Facilities was notified and determined the source of water to be a potable water leak (<5 gal per minute). Chlorine screening analysis on the east and west side of the pipe at the road at the entrance to the outfall revealed no chlorine. At approximately 1715 on 06/07/2007, the line was isolated and the leak stopped. SQN Problem Evaluation Report (PER) 125991 was written to document the leak and corrective actions.
On 6/11/07, Facilities uncovered the potable water line and discovered that the ninety degree elbow in the line was cracked. The elbow was replaced and the line was placed back in service and remained uncovered for 24-hours to observe any other leaks. No other leaks were observed along the line or in the elbow of the line. The line was covered and remains in-service.
Per the Inspectors' request, SQN Environmental staff also inspected storm water outfalls nos. 1, 16, and 17 for dry weather discharges and no discharges were observed.
