Eugene Cobey-- IIPEC Eugene'Cobey report for status report PEC status f9r March 29 2007 March 29 ý007 Pag,ý_?J March 29 2007 Outage Update - 3R 14 Indian Point Unit 3 is in day 23 of its refueling and maintenance outage and is on schedule. Operations crews are performing post maintenance tests and checks in preparation for restarting the unit.

Unit 2 is operating at 100% and has been on-line for 29 days.

Groundwater Investigation Update Indian Point is continuing its investigation into the source, flow path and dose impacts from tritium and Strontium in groundwater. The following is an update of recent activities:

• Dye Tracer Test. Entergy started a dye tracer test about 7 ,1 weeks aao by putting dye into an injection point near the Unit 2 (b)(4)

~ W.V (b)(4) Since then, investigators have been collecting water alid charcoal samples from monitoring wells, drains and sumps. They have been mapping the direction of water flow and clearance rates through the wells. The results of the tracer test will help determine the location and sampling frequency for the long-term monitoring program. Sampling in the affected area on site was suspended due to the test, The test is expected to continue for another 5-6 weeks.

• Packer Installations for Monitoring Wells. Several of the installed packer or Waterloo devices for the deep wells on site have experienced problems. The packer devices allow for isolation and sampling of various depths within the wells. Ten wells will have new permanent packer devices installed. They should be completed within the next 3-4 weeks.

• Unit 2 Transfer Canal. Entergy is preparing to conduct inspections and tests in the transfer canal that connects the reactor cavity to the spent fuel pool. The tests will begin with evaporation tests and visual inspections and continue with vacuum box leak detection, microbiologically induced corrosion tests and ultrasonic tests to determine wall thicknesses of the pool's stainless steel liner.

The transfer canal has been filled with water in preparation for the first series of tests.

• IP2 Leak Collection Box. Entergy plans to increase the frequency of measuring water from the leak collection box in the spent

IEugenqeCobey -IpEc status repot for March 29 2007 'Page 3 1 fuel pool building. Last spring the water levels increased possibly due to season water or snow runoff.

No off-site samples have shown any indications of radioactivity from Indian Point.
