Concrete temperatures at VY Sarah was able to present Ray's concerns to Bill and Bill provided the following answers:
When I reviewed concrete temperature data at Vermont Yankee, I determined the following:
- 1. There were some times when temperatures inside containment at the wall in the zone of interest exceeded 200 degrees by a small amount.
2.. Since that time, the cooling units inside containment have been modified to give more cooling.
- 3. Since the modification of the cooling units, temperature inside containment at the wall in the zone of interest has not exceeded 200 degrees.
- 4. Vermont Yankee monitors the wall temperature in these locations and-would take action if they exceeded 200 degrees as a result of power uprate.
- 5. And finally, most important, I concluded that even if the small increase in temperature over 200 degrees was present for an extended period of time (which it never has been), I could not demonstrate this would cause any degradation of the concrete behind the stainless steel shell because of various heat transfer assumptions.
Bill appreciates Ray's concerns but believes they have been adequately addressed.
I would like to advise Entergy tomorrow morning, Wednesday, May 2, that NEC has no objection to the settlement and that it should reflect that in the text.. I will ask them to run a final copy of the language past you but I know they will want you to get back to them quickly as there is a data update due on Thursday and they would like to have the agreement signed and filed by then. Please call me Wednesday a.m. if you have any questions. I will send this out about 10 a.m.
