SUBJECT:
NRC RECEIPT OF R.E. GINNA NUCLEAR POWER PLANT RESPONSE TO GENERIC LETTER 2006-03, POTENTIALLY NONCONFORMING HEMYC AND MT FIRE BARRIER CONFIGURATIONS (TAC NO. MD1583)
Dear Mrs. Korsnick:
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) acknowledges the receipt of your June 9, 2006, response to Generic Letter 2006-03, Potentially Nonconforming Hemyc and MT Fire Barrier Configurations. Under oath or affirmation, your response states that your nuclear power plant relies on either the Hemyc or MT fire barrier system, and that you have submitted documentation that you plan to disposition any nonconforming conditions in accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR), Section 50.48(c) process. Also, compensatory measures have been in place since April 6, 2005; your response states that additional compensatory measures, or changes to the current measures, may be considered based on NRC Information Notice 97-48, NRC Regulatory Issue Summary 2005-07, and future industry guidance. Based on your response, the acceptability of these barriers will be reviewed by the NRC during Ginna's transition to 10 CFR 50.48(c). Therefore, no further action is requested of you.
If you have any questions regarding this response, please contact me at (301) 415-1364.
Sincerely,
/RA/
