50-305 License No. DPR-43 DOMINION ENERGY KEWAUNEE. INC.
KEWAUNEE POWER STATION WITHDRAWAL OF LICENSE AMENDMENT REQUEST 214 - REQUEST FOR REVIEW AND APPROVAL OF METHODOLOGY CHANGE REGARDING TORNADO MISSILES Pursuant to 10 CFR 50.90 Dominion Energy Kewaunee, Inc. (DEK) requested Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) approval of a proposed license amendment request (LAR) for the Kewaunee Power Station (Kewaunee) (reference 1). The proposed amendment would allow the use of a different methodology for determining the design requirements necessary for protecting safety-related equipment from damage by tornado generated missiles. Subsequently, the NRC sent DEK a request for additional information (RAI) to complete their review of the methodology change request (reference 2). During DEK's development of responses to the NRC RAI, a meeting was requested to discuss the RAI with the NRC staff (reference 3). Based on the public meeting held at NRC Headquarters on January 25, 2007, DEK has determined that additional analysis is required to provide the information requested by the NRC.
Because this analysis will not be completed until July 2007 and DEK believes that supplementing the original submittal would be more confusing than submitting a new request, DEK has determined that withdrawing the current methodology change request is appropriate.
Therefore, DEK hereby withdraws License Amendment Request 214, "Request for Review and Approval of Methodology Change Regarding Tornado Missiles," but will re-submit a new license amendment request when the supporting analysis is completed.
If you have any questions or require additional information, please contact Mr. Craig Sly at (804) 273-2784.
Very truly yours, Gerald T. Bischof u Vice President, Nuclear Engineering
