GALEF Health Assemblywoman 90TI District Majority Steering March 2, 2007 Chairman Dale E. Klein U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission 1155 Rockville Pike 0-16C1 Rockville, MD. 20852

Dear Chairman Klein,

I am writing in support of a comprehensive safety review of Indian Point by an independent commission of experts prior to the plants' receiving a twenty-year relicense. Indian Point's current forty-year license expires in 2013 for Unit 2 and 2015 for Unit 3.

Before Indian Point's license is renewed, it is important that the plants undergo a thorough safety inspection. It is necessary that NRC staff, who are knowledgeable but have not been actively involved with the plants in the past, evaluate how well they are currently operating.

An independent review will allow for a comprehensive assessment to ensure public safety. If there are problems with the plants, they should be addressed before the relicense could be granted.

An independent analysis by the NRC will greatly improve the comfort level of the people who live around Indian Point. The community deserves to feel safe and know that all appropriate measures have been made to maintain the security of the plants.

I ask that you. strongly consider an independent commission of experts to conduct an indepth safety inspection of Indian Point before Entergy is considered for a relicense for the next two decades.

Thank you for your positive response to my request.

Sincerely, Sandy Galef-ALBANY OFFICE: Room 641, Legislative Office Building, Albany, New York 12248.- (518) 455-5348 - FAX (518) 455-5728 C,.>
