Dear Mr. Nesmith,
This letter is to request an extension for the Temporary Use of a Filter Truck for Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station, PWS 7670905. The Emergency Permit was initially granted by the PADEP on December 31, 2006. The extension is requested due to the fact that river turbidity and river temperatures were not favorable during most of the time the clarifier bed was trying to be established. In addition, the valve approved by engineering for the injection point of the bentonite clay clogged and was not suitable for the injection. Another method is being formulated to inject the clay, which involves injecting a metered slurry into the center well of the clarifier. An extension of this permit will allow for additional time to establish the clarifier bed while the filter truck is in service. Once the clarifier bed is formed and established, the clarifier will be placed into service to provide make up water to the domestic water system.
Peach Bottom is requesting an extension to March 31, 2007, in order to provide additional time for the clarifier to recover following cleaning and maintenance.
