Dear Sir / Madam:
Subject:
VIRGIL C. SUMMER NUCLEAR STATION (VCSNS)
DOCKET NO. 50/395 OPERATING LICENSE NO. NPF-12 ASSESSMENT OF ALLOY 82/182 PRESSURIZER BUTT WELD FABRICATION DOCUMENTATION (C-07-0439)
Reference:
Jeffrey B. Archie (SCE&G) Letter to Document Control Desk (NRC), Inspection and Mitigation of Alloy 82/182 Pressurizer Butt Welds, January 31, 2007 In Attachment I of the referenced letter dated January 31, 2007, South Carolina Electric & Gas Company (SCE&G) noted that an assessment of original fabrication weld documentation to identify welds that may have been reworked was in process. SCE&G informed the NRC that every effort would be made to provide the NRC an update on the assessment results by February 28, 2007 but accounting for possible delays due to vendor delivery and/or SCE&G review and acceptance, no later than March 31, 2007.
Under contract to SCE&G, Westinghouse performed a review of fabrication records relative to the VC Summer Pressurizer. This review concluded that there were no fabrication repairs to the Alloy 82/182 welds on any of the pressurizer nozzles. While there were fabrication issues identified, none of them impacted these welds, nor required any repairs or modifications to the Alloy 82/182 welds. This conclusion was confirmed by a site review of available documentation and stress reports.
SCE&G staff is available to meet with the NRC to discuss any of the information contained in this letter.
Should you have questions, please call Mr. Bruce Thompson at (803) 931-5042.
