FACT SHEET Brookfield Power owns and operates 29 hydroelectric generating facilities in the Lake Ontario area in upstate New York, with a total generating capacity of 214 megawatts.

Brookfield Power is the largest independent producer of hydroelectric power in the state of New York.
All of the hydroelectric plants are remotely operated from the company's Liverpool, New York, control center. Operation and maintenance personnel visit sites regularly, performing routine maintenance when necessary. Brookfield Power can respond to calls quickly via its field service workforce.

> Brookfield Power's Trenton Falls Scenic Trail in Trenton, New York received the 2005 Annual Achievement Award for Recreational Stewardship from the National Hydropower Association. After being closed for nearly 100 years, Brookfield Power and the Town of Trenton collaborated to create scenic hiking trails and interpretive signage - on hydropower, geology and history - along the west side of the Trenton Falls gorge. Since opening in October 2004, thousands of visitors flock to the site on the two weekends in the fall and spring when it is open to the public.
> In October 2005, Brookfield Power completed a $920,000 restoration and construction project at its 5.4 MW Kamargo Hydroelectric facility on the Black River in Jefferson County, New York. The three-month-long project focused primarily on the foundation of the powerhouse, and the north canal wall. The powerhouse foundation walls were restored to their original strength, and a significant portion of the north canal wall was rebuilt.
> Eight plants on the Beaver River -- Moshier, Eagle, Soft Maple, Effley, Elmer, Taylorville, Belfort and High Falls - were the first in Brookfield Power's fleet to be certified low impact by the Low Impact Hydropower Institute. These projects meet LIHIs eight, environmentally rigorous criteria addressing: river flows, water quality, fish passage and protection, watershed health, endangered species protection, cultural resources, recreation use and access, and whether or not the dam itself has been recommended for removal. Combined, 24 out of 71 of the company's New York hydropower facilities have LIHI certification, with a total generating capacity of nearly 224 megawatts.
