Fwd: RE: USGS SPLITS Tim, The Indian Point resident's office phone number for Greg Bowman is: 914-739-9360. Good luck on getting this round of sample splits.

Regards, Jim

Jim, Alex arranged to go to the site the evening before and pick up seals.

Satch was going to arrange it with Greg at that end.

I can give DOH Greg's # (what is his #?) for the person doing the LaFarge wells.

would Greg be willing to either meet him at the front security bldg if he calls when he is near the site?

That way he could just hand it to him they could both go back to work. -

I would say DOH could go to the GSB, but with them coming from Albany that morning, and the time it takes to get through security, there isn't time.

If this works please let me know today so I can arrange it with DOH, Thanks for all your help, Tim

That works for the boundary wells.

It will be a problem for the LaFarge and USGS wells since our staff won't be at the site itself.

I agree we shouldn't make a habit of using Entergy or GZA to ferry things between us.

Let me talk with Alex and see if there is some way for him to get to the site before they begin sampling.

That could take care of the problem for the USGS wells.

I also want to let you know that DEC and DOH have just made a recommendation to the NRC (actually I called John just a minute ago) that due to our commitments to the Counties we are recommending that a stakeholder call be arranged for this afternoon to inform them of the suspect Sr-90 hit at LaFarge well # 2, as well as the data showing Cs and Ni at MW-30 (the first non-tritium values in the U-2 plume) and the Ni-63 near the canal from U-I. We have to inform the County DOH in a timely manner for new information of interest such as this. We will back you up on the tentative nature of the Sr at LaFarge and emphasize that our staff will be there next week collecting new split samples for LaFarge and the southern boundary wells.

Dear Tim,

Sure, Greg could bring the seals out to the GSB. It would be better that we don't get in the practice of letting the licensee courier our security seals.

Regards, Jim

Jim, If we can work out some other method that would be preferable.

Maybe a sealed and signed envelop containing the security seals?

Are they sequentially #'d?

If so Greg can record the #'s and passing them through Ron would then not be a problem.

The issue is that for the USGS wells, Alex is meeting GZA on the west side of the Hudson up near the Bear Mountain Bridge.

For the LaFarge wells Jerry Collins from DOH is meeting them at the LaFarge site and is already pressed for time, having driven down from Albany that morning. For the Boundary wells (MW-40 and 51) John from DOH will be on-site but only in the OCA. He could meet Greg if he could bring them out to the GSB.

Dear Tim,

Greg Bowman has them in the NRC resident office. It is best if a resident inspector provides these seals directly to you for your use.

Jim, Does Ron have some of those seals for our use, or should we arrange to get them from someone else?

Thanks, Tim

James Noggle - Fwd: RE: USGS SPLITS Pace 3f1

Dear Ron,

Please ensure that the DEC puts the ORISE security seals on the NRC split samples afterwhich the samples can go to your shipping department.

No extra handling by the NRC resident inspectors is needed. Thanks.

Regards, Jim

Ron, That transfer process should be acceptable. I'll leave it up to the NRC to make the final call.

We have the USGS sample bottles in our possession now, and will have them with us for: you, the NRC, and IPEC when we meet with you on the USGS wells sampling sites. We also understand Alex will be handing over the NRC bottles to us, for us to take the NRC split bottles back to the onsite IPEC NRC inspector. We will have the appropriate chain of custody seals to accommodate this. Thanks,Ron Sachatello From: Timothy Rice [1].

USGS SPLITS I just spoke with John White and NRC has changed their minds on the USGS wells. Originally they were not going to ask for splits.

However, he has now asked that DEC observe and take custody of splits from all of the wells for them, and turn them over to the resident inspectors at the site.

So, we now need bottles from the site for three-way splits for all of the USGS Wells and C-of-C's for transfer to the NRC, and Alex will have to arrange to hand over their splits before coming back to Albany.

Thanks, Tim
