SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 - RESPONSE TO GENERIC LETTER 2006-03: POTENTIALLY NONCONFORMING HEMYC AND MT FIRE BARRIER CONFIGURATIONS (TAC NOS. MD1632 AND MD1633)
Dear Mr. Singer:
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) acknowledges the receipt of your response to Generic Letter (GL) 2006-03, Potentially Nonconforming Hemyc and MT Fire Barrier Configurations. Under oath or affirmation, in your response dated June 7, 2006, you stated that Hemyc or MT fire barrier materials are not used at the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant (SQN),
Units 1 and 2.
Also, you stated that SQN uses fire barriers other than Hemyc or MT, which are designed and installed as approved by the NRC staff. Your responses to GL 92-08, Thermo-Lag 330-1 Fire Barriers, described the fire barriers used to separate redundant safe shutdown trains located within the same fire area at SQN. Your June 25, 1997, letter described the corrective actions planned for fire barriers in response to GL 92-08. Your letter of June 30, 1999, stated that SQNs corrective actions associated with GL 92-08 had been completed. The basis for stating that these other fire barriers meet NRC requirements should be maintained on site, and will be subject to inspection during the normal NRC inspection process.
