Tom & Holyoke Range Ecological Working Group Mission Connecticut River The Connecticut River stretches 410 miles from the Canadian border to the Connecticut coast. The river passes through New England's great Northern Forest, 99 cities and towns, and many wetlands. It is the home to many species of fish, birds and plants -

including Bald Eagles, Atlantic Salmon and rare Mussels. It is also an important recreational area for people and an important source of water to the areas industry and agriculture. Because of the rivers multiple uses conflicts often arise between its natural and economic value. Although the river has seen a revival in both its ecological health and recreational value, continued vigilance is necessary to continue its recovery from past abuses.
