Fish of Lake Ontario/Fish of the Great Lakes by Wisconsin Sea Grant Alewife Atlantic Salmon Bloater Bowfin Brook Trout Text Only The Fish of Lake Ontario Lake Ontario is the smallest of the Great Lakes--193 miles long and 53 miles wide, with 726 miles of shoreline. Its average depth is 283 feet, and its maximum depth is 802 feet.
