January 10, 2007 Mr. James Houser, Chairperson Linn County Board of Supervisors Linn County Administrative Office Building 930 1st Street SW Cedar Rapids, IA 52404
Dear Mr. Houser:
SUBJECT:
LOCAL OUTREACH INITIATIVE The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is responsible for regulation of the Duane Arnold Energy Center located within Linn County, Iowa. In 2007, we are beginning an outreach initiative to meet with county government officials, mayors, and tribal representatives local to the 16 nuclear power plants that we regulate within Region III. We plan to explain NRCs role and mission and establish a point of contact in the event you have questions regarding NRC activities in the future. We would also like to tell you about our resident inspector program, security enhancements and other outreach activities that the NRC is conducting that may involve members of the public around the plant.
I would like to meet with you at your office for a brief, informational meeting and plan on contacting you in the next couple of weeks to establish a date and time. In the meantime, please contact me at 630-829-9659 or via email at sam9@nrc.gov if you have any questions.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
/RA/
