Dominion' Serial No.06-747 KPSILICIGR: RO Docket No.
50-305 License No. DPR-43 WATER REACTORS" By letter dated February 20, 2004, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued revised Order EA-03-009, "Issuance of First Revised NRC Order (EA-03-009)
Establishing Interim Inspection Requirements For Reactor Pressure Vessel Heads At Pressurized Water Reactors." The revised Order requires specific inspection of the reactor pressure vessel (RPV) head and associated penetration nozzles at pressurized water reactors (PWRs). As required by Section IV of the Order, Dominion Energy Kewaunee, Inc. (DEK) is providing the results of the inspection of the Kewaunee Power Station (KPS) RPV head and pressure retaining components above the RPV head.
KPS started the 2006 refueling outage on September 2, 2006 and completed it on October 26, 2006. On September 17, 2006, the RPV head and head penetration nozzles were inspected using VT-3 visual examination in accordance with the requirements of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section XI, 1998 Edition, 2000 Addenda. The inspection included a 360-degree visual inspection around each RPV head penetration nozzle. The result of the examination shows no indications on the RPV head, at the head penetrations, or on pressure retaining components above the head. This inspection satisfies the inspection requirement contained in paragraph IV.C.(5)(a) of revised Order EA-03-009.
With the completion of the 100 percent bare metal visual inspection and the submittal of these results, DEK has concluded that KPS remains in compliance with revised Order EA-03-009 relative to the requirements of a RPV head in the "Replaced" susceptibility category.
