PURPOSE:

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) received a license renewal application (LRA) from Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation, dated September 27, 2006, for the renewal of the operating license for the Wolf Creek Generating Station, Unit 1. The purpose of these meetings is to discuss the license renewal and environmental scoping process for the LRA review. These meetings are being conducted as part of the scoping process outlined in Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 51 (10 CFR Part 51) to support the development of an environmental impact statement. These meetings will provide members of the public with the opportunity to provide comments regarding environmental issues that the NRC should consider during its review.

Both meetings will be preceded by an informal ?open house beginning one hour prior to each meeting. The open house will provide members of the public with an opportunity to talk informally with NRC staff. Members of the public may register to present oral comments at the meetings by contacting Christian Jacobs at 1-800-368-5642, extension 3874, or via e-mail at CJJ@nrc.gov by December 12, 2006. Those who wish to make comments may also register within 15 minutes of the start of each meeting. Individual oral comments may be limited by the time available, depending on the number of persons who register.

The agenda for the meeting and the Federal Register notice are enclosed. The LRA and information on the license renewal process are available on the NRC web site at http://www.nrc.gov/reactors/operating/licensing/renewal.html.

PARTICIPANTS:

Participants from the NRC include members of the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR) and members who register to speak.
