STATE OF CONNECTICUT DEPARTMENT OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AND HOMELAND SECURITY James M. Thtomas Commissioner November 9, 2006 Nader Mamish Director, Emergency Preparedness Directorate Mail Stop 06-H2 United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555
Dear Director Mamish:
Although we have not received formal notification (as of September 8, 2006) we -understand that the NRC will again be supplying Potassium Iodide (KI) to requesting states. We are anxious to receive the KI tablets as soon as possible so that we may package and distribute the new pills before the old KI expires. Therefore, I am now writing to request a replacement supply of Potassium Iodide (KI) 130mg tablets for the State of Connecticut. This supply will allow us to continue our participation in the KI program established roughly four years ago.
This program is an additional protective action for the public included in our Radiological Emergency Response Plan. The plan details Connecticut's offsite emergency preparedness plans for the Millstone Station nuclear power plant located in Waterford, Connecticut.
We are requesting 370,000 tablets (130mg) of IOSAT brand KI to replace the expiring KI that was distributed in 2002 for the population affected by Millstone Station.
The shipment of 130 mg KI tablets should be addressed to:
ATTN: Deborah Ferrari CT DEMHS Hartford Armory 360 Broad Street Hartford, CT 06105 Please feel free to contact us if we have failed to provide adequate information in this letter or if you have any other questions. Contact Deborah Ferrari at 860-566-4577.
