MD1064 Scott:
By letter dated March 23, 2006, STP Nuclear Operating Company submitted Relief Request No. RR-ENG-2-44, requesting deferral of code repairs of two indications found in a piping component of the Essential Cooling Water system of South Texas Project, Unit 1. The indications were believed to be associated with the effect of dealloying of the aluminum-bronze piping material.
The NRC staff has reviewed your request and has idnetified the following preliminary additional information needed to complete the action.. If you need a formal request, please advise me by email. A formal request will be promtly submitted.

Mohan (301) 415-1476 PRELIMINARY REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- 1. Identify the wall thickness of the component at the locations where dealloying indications were found.
- 2. Identify the linear dimension of the adjoining dealloying indication that was found on the pipe circumference.
- 3. Identify any change to the linear dimension of each indication and any presence of detectable moisture at the dealloying locations.
- 4. Provide information pertaining to crack arrest toughness of the aluminum-bronze material.
