SUBJECT:
PUBLIC MEETING REGARDING RECENT PERFORMANCE ISSUES AND CORRECTIVE ACTIONS FOR CURRENT SIREN SYSTEM On October 6, 2006 at 1:00 p.m., a public meeting was conducted at Crystal Bay on the Hudson, Peekskill, New York between the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc. (Entergy). Entergy presented its perspective on the current performance of the alert and notification system, corrective actions regarding recent alert and notification system failures, acknowledged and answered NRC questions, and provided a status regarding their alert and notification system replacement project. The NRC asked questions concerning the recent performance problems associated with the Indian Point alert and notification system and the associated corrective actions taken by Entergy.
After the business portion of the meeting, elected officials and members of the public were given an opportunity to ask questions of the NRC and Entergy which lasted approximately thirty minutes. Questions were raised by stakeholders related to timing of the meeting, siren funding, coordination between Entergy and the counties, and the new siren system. These questions and comments were addressed by NRC and Entergy. Feedback forms submitted by the public following the meeting will be evaluated.
