TXU POWER PLANS FOR PURSUING COMBINED CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATING LICENSE (COL) APPLICATIONS REF: TXU Power letter dated June 27, 2006 from Mr. Mike Greene to the NRC Gentlemen:
In the reference letter TXU Power notified the Nuclear Regulatory Commission of its plans to pursue a Combined Operating License (COL) application for new nuclear generating facilities. TXU Power requests that the public disclosure withholding request made in the reference letter be withdrawn.
On August 31, 2006, TXU announced plans to develop COL applications for 2 to 6 gigawatts (GW) of new nuclear power generation capacity at one to three sites. One of these sites is expected to be the existing Comanche Peak facility. TXU plans to file COL applications with the NRC prior to the end of 2008 and these applications will include plant siting.
TXU is currently assessing reactor technology incorporating contemporary designs and safety features. When reactor technology and sites are selected, TXU plans to meet with the NRC and initiate pre-COL application discussions.
