Dear Ms. Draper,

Per our telephone conversation on June 16, 2006, Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station, PA 7670905, is requesting an extension to Permit No. 6706511 MA Temporary Use of Reverse Osmosis, which currently expires on July 23, 2006.

Peach Bottom requests the extension to the temporary permit to allow for the following maintenance work:

1) Redirecting flow to the individual polishing effluent turbidimeters so that these meters have constant flow, thus eliminating flow perturbations.

2) Revise operating procedures to reduce flow to the individual polishing filters to be more in alignment with the design of the polishing filters.

3) Replace some of the carbon steel piping with PVC.

4) Place a new turbidimeter in the polishing filter room as the CFE.

5) Establish a valid sample point on the common discharge.

6) Install a manual bypass on the CFE to raw water.

7) Install an automatic bypass, activated when the CFE approaches the 1.0 NTU limit.

8) Revise operating procedures to require more frequent backwashes.

To allow additional time for this maintenance, Peach Bottom is requesting an extension to December 31, 2006, for Permit No. 6706511 MA in order to accommodate the maintenance described above.
