Re: Fwd: Transmittal documents for USGS

John, I understand the need not to impact GZA and Entergy with preliminary site visits. I anticipated that Jim Noggle might recommend that the proposed preliminary site visit be postponed or canceled. Larry is planning to hold an initial discussion with John Williams to give him a start on understanding the available data and the site conditions. I will suggest that he discuss with John what type of site visit might best fit his needs.

A one-day trip might suffice, but it could be that he will want more time than that due to the complexity of the situation. I was thinking that maybe a two day visit would better suit the circumstances. Day 1 could be a mid AM intro meeting, and then spend as much time as he needs on tour discussing things as they go along. He would then have the evening to digest what he had heard, followed by a day 2 AM presentation of the GZA interim report and an opportunity for him to ask further questions and discuss possible additions to the investigation plan.

Obviously these are just some early thoughts of my own and the format would need to be driven by Mr. Williams, but I think this might be a workable format. It would allow for travel to the site in the morning of day 1 and return the afternoon/evening of day 2, and allow him some time to consider what he had learned during day 1 before the day 2 meeting. Matt wouldn't necessarily need to be there for day 1 either if he thought that his time would be better spent preparing for the day 2 presentation.

(FYI - My work schedule is set for early arrival and early departure, usually around 3:30PM, though I am often here much later. If you don't reach me after 3:30 it's likely because I have already left for the day.

If you still need to talk give me a call today.)

_6,,

John: Thank you for participating in our discussion today. While we discussed a possible meeting onsite in mid-May, our schedules are as booked as yours. Additionally, I want to avoid impacting Entergy's or GZA's work effort with a meeting that could, at this time, be premature.

Accordingly, I am considering that meeting with Entergy/GZA following the issuance of their interim report would be more effective. As a I mentioned, we are planning on meeting with Entergy in June (hopefully, at a time when you can attend). I will keep you informed. I understand the Larry Rosenmann (NYS/DEC) plans on discussing information that he has collected. If you have any questions for the NRC please call Tom Nicholson (301.415.6268) or myself.
